Heavy rains in Telangana.. Holidays for educational institutions for 5 days

Impact of Low-Pressure in the Bay of Bengal: Life Disrupted by Heavy Rains

Over the last two days, heavy rains triggered by a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal have caused significant disruption to daily life. The relentless downpour has led to flooding in various regions, cutting off streams and embankments, which has severely affected traffic and transportation.

Severe Flooding in Districts

The torrential rains, particularly over the last 24 hours, have resulted in widespread flooding in Khammam, Nalgonda, and Warangal districts. This has caused considerable hardship for the local population, as homes and roads have been submerged, and access to essential services has been hindered.

Another Low-Pressure System: More Rain Expected

Unfortunately, the current weather challenges are not over yet. A second low-pressure system is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal starting tomorrow. This will likely bring more heavy rains, affecting both Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana in the coming days.

Weather Forecast for Telangana: Moderate Rains Expected

According to Shravani, an official from the Hyderabad Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), moderate rains are expected in Telangana over the next five days. While the rain will be widespread, some districts are predicted to experience heavier downpours.

Districts Facing Heavy Rainfall

IMD has specifically issued warnings for heavy rains in the following districts:

  • Khammam
  • Komurambheem
  • Asifabad
  • Bhupalapalli
  • Kothagudem
  • Mahabubabad

Government Response: Holidays Declared in Khammam

In response to the extreme weather conditions, the Khammam District Collector has declared a five-day holiday for all public and private schools and colleges. The announcement was made to ensure the safety of students, as many are unable to commute to their educational institutions due to the flooding and hazardous conditions.

The holidays have been scheduled as follows:

  1. Holiday Start Date: The holiday begins immediately and will last until September 6 (Friday).
  2. Extended Break: Since September 7 is Vinayaka Chavithi and September 8 is a Sunday, schools and colleges will remain closed, giving students a full break until September 9.

Conclusion

The rains, coupled with a looming second low-pressure system, have created a challenging situation for many districts in Telangana. The government and meteorological officials are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates will be issued if necessary. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of heavy rainfall.
