Special Opportunity for Disabled and Senior Citizens:
In the upcoming Telangana Elections 2023, disabled individuals and senior citizens have a unique chance to vote from the comfort of their homes. The Central Election Commission has introduced this special provision for them.
Assistance at Home:
Trained polling officers and staff will visit the homes of eligible candidates who have applied in advance. These officers will assist in the voting process right at their doorstep. To make this happen, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will gather necessary details using Form 12D.
Form 12D: Filling and Submission:
Disabled individuals and senior citizens who wish to vote at home must complete Form 12D and submit it to the Returning Officer (RO) and Assistant Returning Officer (ARO). This form ensures they are included in the home voting process.
Crucial Role of Booth Level Officials:
BLOs play a vital role by informing eligible citizens about home voting and providing them with Form 12D. All required details, including signatures and necessary certificates for disabled individuals, are collected by these officials.
Transparent and Secured Voting Process:
Special arrangements have been made to maintain the secrecy of the vote. The recorded votes from absentee voters are sealed in a postal ballot paper and preserved by the Returning Officer. All postal ballots are counted together.
Support and Facilities at Polling Stations:
For those who prefer to vote at polling stations, necessary facilities like wheelchairs, ramps, and volunteers will be available. Transportation services are also provided, and the Saksham app helps in coordinating these services. Blind voters can bring an assistant and use Braille ballot papers to vote independently.
By implementing these measures, Telangana ensures that every citizen, regardless of their abilities or age, can participate in the democratic process conveniently and with support.
