TSRTC | Original identity card is mandatory.. TSRTC key reference for women

1. Unexpected Response to Mahalakshmi-Free Bus Travel for Women Scheme:

RTC MD Sajjanar highlighted the overwhelming response to the ‘Mahalakshmi-free bus travel facility for women’ scheme initiated by the state government. However, he emphasized the necessity for female passengers to display their original identity cards during bus travel.

2. Strict Requirement for Original Identity Cards:

Sajjanar pointed out the common practice of passengers using photo copies or digital versions of identity cards. Officials now mandate that women show original Aadhaar, voter, driving, etc., identity cards issued by central and state governments to avail themselves of zero tickets. The scheme strictly prohibits free travel if photo copies are presented on smartphones, and it emphasizes the need for clear and updated photographs on identity cards.

3. Applicability and Charges for Women:

Clarifying government directives, Sajjanar specified that the scheme exclusively benefits women from Telangana. Women from other states must pay mandatory charges to obtain tickets, reinforcing the regional scope of the initiative.

4. Future Plans: 2050 New Buses for Improved Passenger Services:

The TSRTC management, recognizing the passenger demand, plans to introduce 2050 new buses within the next four to five months. This expansion includes 1050 diesel and 1000 electric buses, to be deployed in phases, enhancing public transportation services.
