Heavy Rainfall Hits State After Short Break
After a gap of around ten to fifteen days, the state experienced moderate to heavy rainfall in different districts on Friday.
Rainfall Highlights
- The highest recorded rainfall was in Allapally, Bhadradri-Kottagudem District, with 10.7 cm.
- Other notable rainfalls included 7.95 cm in Chalpur (Bhupalapalli district), 7.6 cm in Lakshmidevipet (Mulugu district), 5.76 cm in Mahadevpur (Bhupalapalli district), 5.6 cm in Kannaigudem (Mulugu district), 5.1 cm in Ethurunagaram, and 5 cm in Venkatapuram.
- Additionally, there were moderate rains in several districts including Manchyryala, Kumurabhim-Aasifabad, Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Jagityala, Sirisilla, and Karimnagar. Light showers were observed in Hyderabad and its suburbs.
Weather System Explanation
A low-pressure trough has developed in the northwest Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas. This weather system extends up to 7.6 km above sea level. The low-pressure formation occurred on Thursday and remains active in the northwest Bay of Bengal near the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. Over the next two to three days, it’s expected to move in a west-northwest direction towards North Odisha and North Chhattisgarh. This movement is likely to result in heavy rains in Adilabad, Kumurabhim-Aasifabad, Manchiryala, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagityala, Sirisilla, Karimnagar, and Peddapalli districts during the next two days, as stated by the Meteorological Department.
Government’s Response
In light of this weather situation, the state government took action. Chief Secretary Shantikumari conducted a teleconference with the collectors and directed them to establish control rooms in their respective Collectorates. They were instructed to continuously monitor the situation and respond as needed.
