Promise of Free Electricity by Congress Government in Telangana

Introduction:
Upon assuming power in Telangana, the Congress government pledged to provide 200 units of free electricity to the residents of the state. This promise was made prior to the elections, with the assurance that it would be enacted upon gaining power.

Fulfillment of Promises:
In line with its commitment to the people of Telangana, the Congress party is actively working to fulfill its pre-election promises. One of these promises includes the provision of free electricity, which is now being implemented by the government.

Implementation Guidelines:
The Telangana government, under the leadership of the Congress, is currently focused on implementing six key guarantees, including the provision of free electricity. Guidelines have been issued for the implementation of this scheme, specifying that individuals holding white ration cards will be eligible for 200 units of free electricity.

Eligibility and Conditions:
To qualify for the scheme, households must have a meter installed. Even those residing in rented accommodations can avail of this benefit, provided they consume the allocated 200 units within the specified period. Additionally, a cap of 2,181 units per fiscal year (2022-2023) has been set.

Usage Calculation and Billing:
Customers exceeding 1500 units of electricity usage will be eligible for a 10% discount, which will be spread over 12 months. The consumption will be divided evenly over the year, with only the allocated units being exempt from charges. Meter readings will be conducted daily, and free electricity will be credited within the first ten days of each month.

Identification of Beneficiaries:
Meter reading staff will identify beneficiaries, linking their ration cards, Aadhaar cards, and mobile numbers to the meter. This process ensures that only eligible individuals receive the benefits of the free electricity scheme, effectively implementing the initiative as promised by the Congress government.
