New Digital IDs for Students
The government is introducing a special ID called APAAR for schoolchildren. This ID lets students save their grades, extra courses, and sports achievements digitally. APAAR is linked to their Aadhar ID and acts as a universal system for recording students’ progress.
Storing Academic Records
With APAAR, students can save their exam results, additional courses, and sports achievements in Digilocker, the government’s digital wallet. They can use these records later for higher education and jobs.
Parental Consent and Data Entry
The Ministry of Education has asked all states to get parents’ permission to create APAAR IDs. Schools will hold three-day meetings with parents and enter their consent, or lack of it, into the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) database.
Effort Under National Education Policy (NEP)
This initiative is part of the National Education Policy (NEP). It aims to make the education system more flexible. APAAR IDs, already in use for college students, will help around 15 crore school students. This digital system will serve as a lifelong CV for students, removing the need for physical documents.
Simplifying Student Transfers
APAAR IDs will simplify the process for students changing schools due to their parents’ transfers. They won’t need transfer certificates anymore. The government plans to include all educational institutes and organizations offering vocational courses in this system, making it easier for students to access their records.
