Progressive Policies of Telangana Congress Government
Introduction:
Since assuming power, the Telangana Congress government has been actively implementing various welfare measures aimed at improving the lives of its citizens. Among these initiatives are six key guarantees, each designed to address specific needs of the people.
Free RTC Bus Travel for Women:
One of the government’s earliest moves was to provide women with free travel on RTC buses, making transportation more accessible and affordable for them.
Health Insurance Enhancement:
The government has raised the health insurance limit to Rs 10 lakh, ensuring that individuals have access to adequate medical coverage in times of need.
Free Electricity and Gas Cylinders:
Residents are entitled to 200 units of free electricity and receive 500 gas cylinders, easing the financial burden on households.
Indiramma Housing Scheme:
A housing scheme named after Indira Gandhi is set to be launched soon, providing affordable housing options for the needy.
New Ration Card Initiative:
To avail of these welfare schemes, possessing a ration card is crucial. Despite the previous government’s halt on issuing new ration cards, the current administration has initiated the process anew. The state has received a substantial number of applications for ration cards, indicating the demand for this essential document.
Implementation Challenges and Solutions:
While the ration card EKYC process is ongoing, there have been delays. However, the government is committed to completing 80% of the E-KYC verifications by the end of February. Additionally, efforts are underway to streamline the issuance of new ration cards, ensuring that only eligible individuals receive them.
Future Steps:
Moving forward, authorities plan to conduct fieldwork to assess the situation and address any existing disparities. The government aims to consider all factors, including land ownership, in the ration card issuance process. Chief Minister Revant Reddy has instructed officials to develop clear guidelines for issuing new ration cards, demonstrating the government’s dedication to improving the welfare of its citizens.
