Increasing Bicycle Usage in the City

In the city, the use of bicycles is gradually growing compared to before. This change is due to people’s increased interest in health and fitness during the Corona period. More individuals are now adopting cycling as a regular activity, beyond just weekends.

Renting Bicycles

Just like renting cars, you can also rent bicycles in the city. Although these rental services have been around for a few years, they’ve gained much more popularity recently. Let’s explore where these rental stations are located and learn about their offerings.

Rental Stations and Packages

The city has three rental cycle stations with hundreds of bicycles available. People who enjoy cycling can rent bikes for durations ranging from an hour to a month, depending on their requirements. These stations can be found at Gachibowli, Necklace Road, and Suchitra Circle. Each location has more than a hundred bicycles for rent. To rent a bike, you’ll need to provide your ID proof. Rentals are available by the hour, 24 hours, weekdays, and month.

Cycling’s Growing Popularity

People have made significant lifestyle changes due to COVID-19, particularly by focusing on their health. Doctors recommend activities like walking, jogging, gym workouts, and cycling. With this health-conscious shift, many individuals are gravitating towards cycling. The city has numerous cycling clubs and groups, boasting around 10,000 cyclists. Among them, three to four thousand cyclists ride daily for various purposes. This number is expected to increase significantly.

Rent First, Then Buy

City residents often start with renting bicycles before deciding to purchase their own. Rent a Cycle Station organizers have observed people of all ages using their services. The cost starts at 30 rupees per hour. Different packages are available: 200 rupees for 24 hours, 300 rupees for a week (including a two-day bonus), 450 rupees for 15 days, and 900 rupees for a month. The weekly package seems to be the most popular. Both daily and weekend users find these packages attractive.

Cycling Tracks and Challenges

While GHMC and HMDA announced plans to create cycling tracks similar to those in foreign countries, currently, only two such tracks exist in the city. Unfortunately, these tracks aren’t cyclist-friendly and lack proper maintenance. Despite officials’ claims, the tracks haven’t been set up as well as those in other countries. Heavy fines are imposed on vehicles entering these tracks, yet many residents are unaware of their existence. Cyclists are struggling to navigate the city due to vehicles encroaching on cycling paths.
