Gruha Lakshmi Scheme: Helping Poor Women and Widows Build Homes in Telangana

The government is bringing good news to the city’s poor through the Griha Lakshmi scheme. This initiative assists people who own land but lack a proper home, aiming to help them build a two-bedroom house.

Providing Financial Aid
The Griha Lakshmi scheme, initiated by the State Housing Department, intends to offer financial support to deserving residents of Telangana to construct their own houses. This scheme is exclusively available for married women and widows.

Eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs. 3 lakh in financial assistance, fully funded by the government. Beneficiaries are not required to contribute any money. While beneficiaries have design freedom, the house must include two rooms, a toilet, and display the Grilahkshmi logo.

Financial Assistance in Three Stages
Financial support will be distributed in three installments of Rs. 3 lakh each. The government will deposit the first installment at the basement stage, the second at the roof laying stage, and the final installment upon completion of the house. Beneficiaries must maintain a Janadhan account in their name.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Griha Lakshmi Scheme, applicants must be permanent residents of Telangana, married women, or widows. They should also possess ownership of the plot where the house will be constructed.

Required Documents
Applicants need to provide proof of Telangana residence, Aadhaar card, voter identity card, ration card, passport-size photographs, and copies of bank account details and mobile numbers along with the application form.

Encouragement from the District Collector
District Collector Anudeep Durishetti encourages impoverished women and widows with land but no proper homes to take advantage of the Griha Lakshmi scheme. A designated counter at the collectorate office accepts applications. Eligible applicants must have a food security card, own land for the house, and relevant voter identity or Aadhaar cards.

Those with existing RCC-roofed houses or who have benefited from GO 59 are ineligible. During construction, photos must be uploaded on the Grilahakshmi portal at three stages: basement level, roof stage, and completion.

Three Stages of Financial Aid
Under the scheme, the Rs. 3 lakh assistance will be distributed in three stages, with Rs. 1 lakh deposited for each stage. Beneficiaries are advised to maintain a separate bank account. The government covers the entire Rs. 3 lakh; beneficiaries don’t need to contribute any additional funds.
