Telangana TSRTC: Key Decisions in First Cabinet Meeting
In the inaugural cabinet meeting led by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Minister Sridhar Babu addressed the media, focusing on issues related to the 6 guarantees promised to the public.
Free Travel for Women in Telangana RTC Buses
A significant decision emerged from the cabinet meeting – starting December 9, women in Telangana can travel for free in RTC buses, regardless of their location, be it cities or villages. This initiative coincides with Congress senior leader Sonia Gandhi’s birthday on the 9th of this month.
Aadhaar Requirement for Free Travel
To ensure the integrity of the scheme, women boarding the buses need to present their Aadhaar card to the conductor. This method, also employed in Karnataka, involves the conductor registering the Aadhaar number, issuing a ticket, and avoiding potential fraudulent activities. Ticket checking officers may impose a fine of Rs.500 on those without tickets; however, women holding tickets are exempt.
Implementation and Future Changes
The government contemplates extending a similar policy in Telangana. After displaying their Aadhaar card, women must acquire a ticket, even if they don’t pay for it, to avoid fines. The government assures a prompt review of any uncertainties in the free travel scheme, with potential adjustments. For comprehensive information on the free bus scheme, women traveling in Telangana buses can seek details from the conductor starting tomorrow.
