As part of its commitment to implementing the six guarantees promised during the elections, the Telangana government is set to roll out two additional schemes. The implementation date for these initiatives has been fixed for the 28th of this month, coinciding with the Congress party’s foundation day, marking a new year gift for the citizens.

New Schemes Announced by Congress

In a recent Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting, the Telangana Congress discussed the six guarantees, deciding to initiate the implementation of pension hikes and a subsidized Rs.500 gas cylinder starting from December 28. This move is aimed at fulfilling promises made during the election campaign.

Pension Increase and Gas Subsidy Details

Under the ‘Cheyuta’ initiative, the government plans to raise the monthly pension to Rs.4,000, affecting over 45 lakh beneficiaries across the state. The existing support pension of Rs.2,016 per month for categories like old age, widows, handloom workers, and more will see a significant increase. The annual financial commitment is expected to double, reaching Rs.21,600 crore.

Regarding the Rs.500 gas cylinder guarantee, the government will subsidize the cost, incurring a substantial financial burden, especially for the 1.20 crore cooking gas connections, including those below the poverty line. Official procedures for these schemes’ implementation will be announced by the government shortly.
