1. Exam Changes for Stress Reduction
The central government introduced the Education Policy 2020 to reform the education system. CBSE, part of this initiative, revamped the exam pattern for classes 10 and 12. Board exams will now happen twice a year. However, students have the choice to appear once or twice. The aim is to reduce exam stress and enhance mental development.
2. Exam Flexibility: Twice-a-Year Option
Starting from the academic year 2024-25, CBSE plans to conduct Class 10 and 12 exams twice annually. But here’s the catch: it’s entirely up to students whether they want to take both sets of exams or just one. If a student is content with their first exam score, there’s no obligation to appear for the second one.
3. Subjects of Choice
Under the new policy, students in classes 10 and 12 can now study two languages instead of one. Moreover, they are not limited to specific streams like Arts, Science, or Commerce. They have the freedom to choose subjects from various streams according to their interests and preferences.
4. Combating Coaching Culture
The Education Minister emphasized that this system aims to reduce the intense coaching pressure on students. The goal is to prevent situations like in Kota, Rajasthan, where students, burdened by coaching expectations, resort to extreme measures. By providing flexibility and reducing stress, the government aims to ensure students’ mental well-being.
5. Guidelines for Foreign Universities
Additionally, the Education Minister revealed upcoming guidelines for foreign universities to establish campuses in India. These reforms align with the changing needs of our education system, emphasizing student well-being and flexibility in learning. Stay tuned for more updates!
