The police department has introduced a special offer for the state’s motorists to clear their pending challans promptly. This initiative comes with a government-approved concession period, allowing vehicle owners to settle outstanding fines. The Transport Department’s Secretary issued an order providing discounts on pending challans, and this opportunity extends from today until January 10.
Discount Details for Various Vehicles
To ease the burden on citizens, significant discounts have been specified: an 80% discount on two-wheelers, 60% on autos and four-wheelers, 90% on RTC buses and carts, and a 50% discount on heavy vehicles. The decision to implement these discounts stems from the accumulation of over Rs 2 crore in pending challans across the state.
Success of Previous Subsidy
Last year, a similar subsidy led to the collection of challan fees totaling Rs. 300 crore within 45 days. Due to the persisting challan issues, authorities have opted to provide concessions once again. Challans are not limited to Hyderabad city; other commissionerates, district offices, and small towns are also actively issuing fines. The use of technology, including widespread CCTV camera installations, aids in identifying and penalizing violators.
Time-Limited Discount: Act Now
With the number of pending challans reaching Rs. 2 crores again by the end of last month, authorities have reinstated the concession. It’s crucial to note that this discount is applicable only to those who settle their challans within the specified period, emphasizing the importance of prompt action.
