Changing Outdated Laws: New Bills Introduced
The government is getting ready to make big changes to old laws in the country that were made during the British rule. To do this, they are introducing three new bills in the Parliament. These new bills will replace the laws known as IPC, CRPC, and Indian Evidence Act.
Expert Committee Reviewing New Bills
However, before these new bills can become laws, experts need to look at them more carefully. So, an expert committee will study these bills. One of the new bills is about laws related to marriage in India. This bill will replace the old IPC law.
Tackling Marriage Frauds
There’s a problem with some people cheating in marriages in many parts of the country. They pretend to be someone else and trick women into marrying them. To stop this, the government wants to change the law. In the new bill, they suggest a maximum punishment of ten years in prison for such cases.
New Punishments Proposed
According to the new bill, if someone tricks a woman into marriage by lying about a job or promotion, they could go to jail for up to 10 years. This also applies to those who deceive women for sexual reasons. The Indian Penal Code (IPC) from 1860 is being replaced by this new law. The person introducing it, Amit Shah, said it takes special care of issues related to crimes against women.
Addressing Crimes Against Women
This new bill also tries to solve problems that women face. For the first time, using false promises of marriage, job, or identity to trick women into sexual activity is being seen as a crime. Even though courts have heard cases of women being tricked into marriage and then harmed, the old IPC law doesn’t have a proper punishment for this. That’s why the new bill is adding this new rule.
