Rising Prices of Everyday Items Impact People
Prices of things like vegetables and other necessary items are increasing within the country. This is causing problems for regular people as the costs keep going up. One particular vegetable that’s getting more expensive is tomatoes.
Tomato Prices Skyrocketing
The cost of tomatoes all over the country is becoming a big concern. The price of tomatoes in the market has gone above Rs 200. Market experts are also saying that onion prices might go up as well. They’re predicting that the price of onions might double by next month. It’s expected that onion prices will reach record levels in the upcoming months. Right now, a kilogram of onions is being sold for Rs 28 to Rs 32. But by next month, it could go as high as Rs 70-80 per kilogram.
What’s the Predicted Price Hike?
Market specialists are saying that onion prices might go up even more in the last month of August. However, this increase might happen because there will be less supply available. According to a report from Crisil Market Intelligence and Analytics, onion prices might reach Rs 60-70 per kilogram.
How Long Will the High Prices Last?
It’s expected that by August, the supply of onions from the Rabi harvest will start decreasing, as they were harvested between February and March this year. This will increase the number of onions in stock. People might have to deal with higher prices for about 15-20 days.
Reasons Behind the Price Increase
This time, farmers grew fewer onions because the prices had fallen previously. Additionally, heavy rain and floods affected onion crops. The supply of onions from places like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra has been decreasing. The stored onions will start being sold next month, which will lead to higher prices in the coming days. Onion is following the same pattern as tomatoes. Traders are suggesting that onion prices could double next month. Even though there’s a good supply of onions, the prices are still getting worse. Rain and floods in other states where onions are grown extensively have caused huge losses.
Struggles for Common People
People who were already struggling with the high prices of tomatoes are now facing even more difficulties. This is why prices are somewhat better for now. It’s a good idea to store some items at home when they are cheaper.
